Greenish minister Michael Gove gave the go-ahead for the three times deferred Cumbria mine.&nbsp; The usual crowd of climate bleaters ranted, including the compromised Lord Deben, chairman of the climate change committee, Alok Sharma, and Ed Miliband, the shadow climate minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK government imposed a new windfall tax on gas, as a result of which <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.regulationeconomics.com\/so\/89OLWbVjk\/c?w=0NNPez3OLbIZeyU_zBGXTQ3B6n9bJMEsFqhBZS6iKUM.eyJ1IjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cudGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvLnVrL2J1c2luZXNzLzIwMjIvMTIvMDEvdG90YWwtcHVsbHMtaW52ZXN0bWVudC1ub3J0aC1zZWEtcmVzcG9uc2Utc3VuYWtzLXdpbmRmYWxsLXRheC8_bWNfY2lkPTIzMmM0NGJhMTQmbWNfZWlkPWI1M2E1OTJhYjgiLCJyIjoiZTI2Mzg2MzMtNTRkNi00Mjc3LTUwMTAtNDQ3NTFkMTJjMjExIiwibSI6Im1haWwiLCJjIjoiZmE3M2UzMDAtMmEzZi00YTYwLWJlZWItZjAyN2U0OWI3ZWI0In0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Total<\/a>, the second biggest operator, is pulling planned investment worth about \u00a3100m &#8211; 25pc of previously planned spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Dutch court rejected legal action by RWE and Uniper against the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.regulationeconomics.com\/so\/89OLWbVjk\/c?w=7ZmBATUPsOLTV3c8HrHtftkfVDX8SFt5McMfNQWjY98.eyJ1IjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cucmV1dGVycy5jb20vbWFya2V0cy9jb21tb2RpdGllcy9kdXRjaC1jb3VydC1kZW5pZXMtcndlLXVuaXBlci1jb21wZW5zYXRpb24tY2xvc3VyZS1jb2FsLXBsYW50cy0yMDIyLTExLTMwLyIsInIiOiJlMjYzODYzMy01NGQ2LTQyNzctNTAxMC00NDc1MWQxMmMyMTEiLCJtIjoibWFpbCIsImMiOiJmYTczZTMwMC0yYTNmLTRhNjAtYmVlYi1mMDI3ZTQ5YjdlYjQifQ\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Netherlands<\/a> Government\u2019s 2018 decision to ban coal power generation by 2030. RWE and Uniper were seeking compensation of \u20ac1.4 billion and \u20ac1 billion, respectively. The Court found that the companies should have anticipated such a move and had already benefited from the investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switzerland is considering legislation that would&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.regulationeconomics.com\/so\/89OLWbVjk\/c?w=Fs2gBM6BL1WY4KPperZZ9o-Gw7exxTtotH4X6WL0BlA.eyJ1IjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9uZXdzLnlhaG9vLmNvbS9jbGFpbS1zd2l0emVybGFuZC1wbGFubmluZy1iYW4tZWxlY3RyaWMtMDc0NjA4NDUwLmh0bWwiLCJyIjoiZTI2Mzg2MzMtNTRkNi00Mjc3LTUwMTAtNDQ3NTFkMTJjMjExIiwibSI6Im1haWwiLCJjIjoiZmE3M2UzMDAtMmEzZi00YTYwLWJlZWItZjAyN2U0OWI3ZWI0In0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ban people from driving electric vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Australia has introduced <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.regulationeconomics.com\/so\/89OLWbVjk\/c?w=RM73v5RzV6Xfr79ToLwX_9lVKkDW71BvubJxsD_eXsw.eyJ1IjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuc3BlY3RhdG9yLmNvbS5hdS8yMDIyLzEyL2VuZXJneS1jb2xsYXBzZS1pdC1hbGwtYmVnaW5zLXdpdGgtYS1tYXJrZXQtY2FwLyIsInIiOiJlMjYzODYzMy01NGQ2LTQyNzctNTAxMC00NDc1MWQxMmMyMTEiLCJtIjoibWFpbCIsImMiOiJmYTczZTMwMC0yYTNmLTRhNjAtYmVlYi1mMDI3ZTQ5YjdlYjQifQ\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">price controls<\/a> on domestic gas and coal. On gas, these are $12 per gigajoule (half of the present price but compared with $4-6 historically) with future price levels to be determined by the Commonwealth price controller, the ACCC. The maximum price for thermal black coal is set at $125 per tonne which, though twice the historical price, is only one-third of what can be earned from exporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Australian PM, Anthony Albanese, said he had a PLAN to lower energy prices by 20%. Now his government is paying coal generated power stations to compensate for the price caps designed to reduce an anticipated 63 per cent electricity prices jump to 47 per cent. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.regulationeconomics.com\/so\/89OLWbVjk\/c?w=Nu43SF2bEMxMILv1sDm3Vu-sxtIFqMuja5k7aGtZW7Y.eyJ1IjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYWZyLmNvbS9jb21wYW5pZXMvZW5lcmd5L2h1bmRyZWRzLW9mLW1pbGxpb25zLWluLWNvbXBlbnNhdGlvbi1vbi1vZmZlci1mb3ItY29hbC1maXJlZC1wbGFudHMtMjAyMjEyMjgtcDVjOTMwIiwiciI6ImUyNjM4NjMzLTU0ZDYtNDI3Ny01MDEwLTQ0NzUxZDEyYzIxMSIsIm0iOiJtYWlsIiwiYyI6ImZhNzNlMzAwLTJhM2YtNGE2MC1iZWViLWYwMjdlNDliN2ViNCJ9\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Compensation<\/a> for coal suppliers is likely to exceed $1.5 billion.
